Dynamic and RSS Campaigns: How To Add RSS To Subject Line?

Last Updated: Aug 18 2016 10:43 am UTC

To pull information from your RSS feed and use it for campaign subject line you can use following tags:

  • #[RSS<ID>:TITLE]#
  • #[RSS<ID>:LINK]#
  • #[RSS<ID>:AUTHOR]#
  • #[RSS<ID>:DESCRIPTION]#

In <ID> space use the numbers of the blocks in RSS feed, for example, <01>.

To create a subject line that contains title of an article of RSS feed follow these steps:

  1. In 4th step of email creating wizard add RSS block to your email template
  2. Click on Plain Text tab that is located on the right-hand side.
  3. Click on link "Import from HTML" link
  4. In Plain Text version add another block of RSS feed with different ID

When you have done the first step you can begin to make changes to your template.

First, manage to Plain Text version in Drag and Drop editor. Then you need to add this additional row in the plain text version under all of the other RSS merge tags that were generated:

#[RSSBLOCK01:URL=http://example.com/feed|POSTS=1]##[RSSITEM:TITLE]##[/RSSBLOCK01]#

In URL http://example.com/feed, you will have your RSS feed URL.

In the RSSBLOCK01 you will need to change the number to 02, remember to that that in the begging of the line and at the end. So the final version in Plain Text will look like this:

#[RSSBLOCK01:URL=http://example.com/feed|POSTS=1]#

#[RSSITEM:TITLE]#

#[RSSITEM:DESCRIPTION]#

#[RSSITEM:LINK]#:

#[RSSITEM:LINK]#

#[/RSSBLOCK01]#

#[RSSBLOCK02:URL=http://example.com/feed|POSTS=1]##[RSSITEM:TITLE]##[/RSSBLOCK02]#

Don't forget to click on “Do Not Overwrite Plain Text“ checkbox so your changes won't be lost.

After that is done copy the row above and manage to step 1 and paste it in the subject line.
